Alton “Al” Erickson, 97, of Twin Lakes, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Aurora Memorial Hospital-Burlington.
Born in Oconto Falls on Oct. 20, 1920, he was the son of Gustav and Myrtle (nee Harvey) Erickson. He spent his early years in Oconto Falls where he graduated from Oconto Falls High School. He attended vocational school briefly. He took a bus to the Chicago area where he worked at Exact Machine Works.
On Oct. 23, 1943, in Maywood, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Marge B. Richardson. Following marriage, they made their home in Maywood, where they managed a small grocery store for 22 years. Marge preceded him in death on June 28, 2007, after 64 years of marriage. Al served his country in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, during World War II, on Sea Plane Tender USS Half Moon in the South Pacific. He later worked in Burlington, Kenosha and Fond du Lac for Montgomery Ward before returning to Burlington in 1990. While in Fond du Lac, he was an active member of the Fond du Lac Historical Society. He enjoyed going fishing with Marge, making model steam engines, painting and especially enjoyed doing woodworking projects building PBY Planes. He attended a yearly reunion with his Navy shipmates and was honored to have sponsored one in Milwaukee in 2009.
Al is survived by his children, Nancy (Jerry) Allen of Twin Lakes and Allen (Robbie) Erickson of Stafford, Virginia; grandchildren, David (Shannon) Erickson, Ann Danae Erickson, Julie Erickson, Jason (Shannon) Allen and Brandon (Shona) Allen. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and a brother, Orland Erickson, and sister-in-law, Sheilah Richardson along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Aurora at Home Hospice-Burlington or Burlington Rescue Squad.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Place, the Burlington Rescue Squad and the nurses and staff at Aurora Memorial Hospital-Burlington for the wonderful care and compassion.
A visitation for Al was held on Monday, April 2, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Burial followed at Burlington Cemetery.
