Jane I. (Horsens) Stromer, 96, of Oconto Falls, formerly of Pulcifer, passed away on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at the Cottages of Oconto Falls with her children by her side.
Jane was born in the town of Green Valley on Nov. 16, 1920, a daughter of the late John and Frieda (Krueger) Horsens. She attended local schools and was a proud graduate of Gillett High School, Class of 1943.
Jane married Norman “Bud” N. Stromer on May 31, 1947, and together they raised a son and daughter.
In earlier years, she, along with her brother Mert, owned and operated Jane & Mert’s Restaurant. She later ran Jane’s Grocery in Pulcifer for 23 years and eventually went to work for Mirro Aluminum from which she retired.
Jane was a longtime, active member of Tabor United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener and tended her property with great pleasure and care. She loved to do needlework and quilting, and enjoyed baking bread and pies, happily welcoming guests for dessert and a cup of coffee. Her hands always seemed to be busy.
Jane and Bud enjoyed dancing, traveling and visiting family, yet found spending time together at home to be the best place of all. She was an enthusiastic walker, and many will remember seeing her walking the country roads around Pulcifer with book in hand. Her zest for life was evident in all that she did.
Jane is survived by her son, Nick (Para) Stromer, of Pewaukee, and her daughter, Pam (Steven) Olson, of Nashville, Tennessee. She also leaves her grandchildren: Michael (Emily) Pittman, of Memphis, Tennessee, Elizabeth Olson and Brianna Olson, both of Nashville, Tennessee, Steven Olson, of Denver, and Katherine (Christopher) Houk, of Milwaukee. Jane is further survived by her great-granddaughter, Eleanor Gray; her sisters-in-law Jeanine Horsens, of Green Bay, and Delores Horsens, of Germantown; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Bud; and her brothers, Merton, Charles, Duane and Myron Horsens.
The family sends special thanks to the staffs of Heartland Hospice and the Cottages of Oconto Falls as well as to Tiffany Truttman for their kind and compassionate care of Jane.
