Wayne Damp

Wayne Damp, 75, Oconto Falls, died suddenly of natural causes Wednesday morning, April 11, 2018, at the home of his daughter. He was born Jan. 23, 1943, in Oconto Falls to James and Lorraine (Kitzman) Damp Sr. Wayne grew up in Oconto Falls where he attended pubic schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1961. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam and upon his honorable discharge came back to Oconto Falls.

On March 12, 1966, he married Yvonne Heimke in Menominee, Michigan, and the couple lived in Oconto Falls for all of their married lives where they raised two children. Wayne worked for many years at the American Archery Co. in Oconto Falls where he developed fine artistic woodworking skills and began his own woodcarving business, specializing in wildlife and wood-burning. He was a well-known artist who displayed his crafts all over the area and was recognized in Shawano as “Best of Show” six years in a row. Wayne was also employed at the U.S. Postal Service, first as a carrier in Oconto Falls and later as a sorter in Green Bay, for many years until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Wayne will be fondly remembered as a loving and proud husband, father and grandfather who lit up any time his grandchildren were around.

Survivors are his two children, Wendy (special friend, Sean Houska) Damp, Oconto Falls; Scott (Kate) Damp, Green Bay; five grandchildren, Jacob (Angel) Oestreich, Mariah (Jordan) Busch and Jasmine Teller; Scott W. Jr. and Max Damp; great-grandchildren, Trent and Seth Oestreich, Malakai, Wayne and Charlie Busch; one brother, James (Virgie) Damp Jr., Oconto Falls; one sister, Faye (Wade) Tress, Coleman; one sister-in-law, Regina Damp, Oconto Falls; four brothers-in-law, Ron (Mary) Heimke, Abrams; Gary (Glori) Heimke, Todd “Doc” (Sandra) and Roger “Eb” (Terri) Heimke all of Oconto Falls; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Yvonne in 2012, one brother Norman Damp in 2017, and in-laws, Gordon and Marie Heimke.

Visitation with the urn present was held after noon Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls (920-848-2222 or visit: www.jonesfuneral.com) until the time of service. Memorial services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lloyd Luedeman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Oconto Falls.
