On Thursday, March 29, 2018, Russell Christensen of Suring, 89, passed away under the attentive care of his family and Heartland Hospice.

Russ was well known for his love of the outdoors, considering it precious time spent with family and friends hunting and fishing. Along with his family and wife of over 65 years, Russ enjoyed many happy hours in the garden. He served as a conservation warden for the DNR from 1956-1980.

On July 14, 1979, he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. His love of God, Neighbor, and the promise of a restored paradise earth motivated him to share this hope with many in the community.

Russ will be missed by his wife, Arvilla; sons, Howard (Karen) Christensen and Jeff (Nancy) Christensen; daughter, Toni (Kurt) Zastrow; granddaughter, Heidi (Adam) Brickner; grandsons, Mike (Jinhee) Christensen and Jonathan Christensen.

He was preceded in death by his father, William; mother, Clara; brother, Conrad; and sister, Constance.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 506 N. Chestnut Ave., Oconto Falls, from 1 p.m. until the memorial service at 2 p.m. with James P. McClure officiating. Russell will be interred in Breed Union Cemetery. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.

A special thanks to all members of Heartland Hospice, who gave kind and attentive care to Russ and his family.
