Marjoryann M. Giese

Marjoryann M. Giese, 89, of Gillett, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018, in Gillett. Born in Shawano on Dec. 26, 1928, she is the daughter of the late Fred and Sylvia (Boettcher) Miller. On June 7, 1947, Marjory was united in marriage to Leonard W. Giese. The couple lived in Milwaukee for several years before returning to Gillett, where she worked in the lunch room at Gillett schools for 25 years. She is a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Gillett and enjoyed camping, fishing and watching the birds. More than anything, Marjory loved spending time with her family.

Marjory is survived by: her children, Carol (Rod) Daniels, Barbara (Pat Forst) Giese and Randy (Lorie) Giese all of Green Bay; three grandchildren, Chris (Tracy) Giese, Jesse and Josh Walkush; seven great-grandchildren, Amber, Colin and Ian Weiss, Alexis, Haley and Tuff Giese, Zane Davies, Gavin and Garrett Bergemann, Brittney and Cole Walkush; numerous great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Deloue “Buck” Miller, David Miller and Madeline Talmage; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marlene and Reynold Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; one son, Gerald “Jerry” Giese in 2004; her parents; and one sister, Betsy McDermot.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church in Gillett with the Rev. Kent Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Robert Picazo

Robert “Bob” Picazo, 81, Oconto Falls, died Saturday morning, March 31, 2018, at The Cottages. He was born Dec. 14, 1936, in Kenosha to Richard and Isabel (Garcia) Picazo. Bob grew up in Kenosha where he attended school and as a young man entered the U.S. Army. As a paratrooper, he proudly served his country while stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He did tours in Germany and South America and was honorably discharged in late 1956.

On Oct. 3, 1959, he married Noni Steffens at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Milwaukee for 15 years where Bob worked as an industrial pipe-fitter. In 1969, they and their young family moved to Lena, eventually moving to Oconto Falls on the Steffens homestead. Bob worked in Green Bay for Larson Canning, later Dean Foods, for over 30 years. While there, he served as union treasurer. Following retirement, Bob worked as custodian of St. Anthony Catholic Church and School for 13 years where he was a member. He will be fondly remembered as a fisherman and avid deer hunter, hunting with the same group of guys for 42 years. Bob was also a huge Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan, waiting 32 years on the list to obtain his season tickets.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Noni Picazo, Oconto Falls; their four children, Dani-Ann Sutter, Lodi, Roberta Dorner, Green Bay, Cara (Stephen Ottone) Barton, Freedom, and Robert Picazo, Oconto Falls; four grandchildren, Joseph and Jackson Sutter, Genevieve and Cole K. Barton; his siblings, Inez Navarro, Greg (Joan) Picazo, Margaret (Tom) Knepshield, all of Kenosha, and Rosalie (Dean) Johnson, Augusta; his half-brothers and sister, Ralph, Sam (Jennifer) and Sara Abrego; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary “Kelly” (Judy) Steffens, Judy (Marv) Senn and Sue Ann (Dick) Van Ark, all of Oconto Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings, Connie and Richard; his in-laws, Matt and Deloris Steffens; and two brothers-in-law, Dante Navarro and Maynard (Patsy) Steffens.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Cottages for the care given to their beloved husband and father.

Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Joel Sember officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery.

Lois M. Neuman

Lois Marilyn (Wilson) Neuman, 86, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018, at Atrium Post-Acute Care of Oconto Falls.

She was born in Underhill on Dec. 18, 1931, a daughter of the late Thomas and Fredia (Froemming) Wilson. Lois attended local schools and was a 1949 graduate of Gillett High School. She married Allen Neuman on April 21, 1951, at the former Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gillett. Lois worked as a waitress, store clerk and as a bank teller. She enjoyed bowling and was an avid Brewers fan. Lois was an active member of Faith United Lutheran Church as well as the Ladies Aid. She was an “awesome” mom and grandmother and will be sadly missed.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Joy (Paul) Schmidt of Oconto Falls, and her son, Robert “Bob” (Wanda) Neuman of Green Bay; her sister, Rachel (the late John) Houk of Cambridge; her grandchildren: Bill (Stephanie) Paitl, Jeff (Lauren) Schmidt, Kiefer Neuman and Chelsea Neuman. She also leaves her great-grandchildren: Eden, Dylan and Ophelia, other relatives and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Allen, a son Mark Neuman and two infants Marilyn and Michael. She was also predeceased by her brothers Morris (Bernice) Wilson and Bob (Joyce) Wilson.

Memorial visitation will be Thursday, April 5, 2018, from 9-10:45 a.m. at Faith United Lutheran Church, 11465 Old U, Gillett. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Laatsch officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

For those wishing, memorials are appreciated to either the church at the above address or to Unity Hospice.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Atrium Post-Acute Care of Oconto Falls, where Lois has resided the last four years, as well as the staff of Unity Hospice and Lois’ doctors, Dr. Iris Perez and Dr. Amy Romandine-Kratz. Ralph R. Prey Jr., 68, Oconto, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. Ralph was born Nov. 17, 1949, in Clintonville to the late Ralph and Lucille (Drake) Prey Sr. He married Sharon Ellie on Oct. 30, 1976. Ralph worked at Bond Pickle for eight years and as a crossing guard for the city for over 20 years.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Sharon Prey, Oconto; two sons, Thomas Prey, Oconto; Michael (Beth Bice) Prey, Oconto; six sisters, LaVerne (John) Burmeister, Shawano; Joanne (Jim) Prey, Shawano; Kay (Jerome) Babino, Oconto; Betty Gajewske, Brillion; Barbara (Bob) Bohart, Shawano; Jeanette (Dave) Habeck, Shawano; three brothers, Eddie (Helen) Prey, Wisconsin Rapids; Gary (Robin) Prey, Shawano; Jim (Jeanie) Prey, Shawano; a sister-in-law, Milie Prey, Tigerton; four grandchildren, Alyssa, Aiden “Butchy,” Kevin and Kyle Prey.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Prey, Sandy DeBroux; a brother, Roger Prey; a sister-in-law, Joanne Prey; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Gajewske.

The family received relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018. Memorial services were conducted 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Craig Alwin officiating. Visitation continued after the service until 8 p.m.

Russell Christensen

On Thursday, March 29, 2018, Russell Christensen of Suring, 89, passed away under the attentive care of his family and Heartland Hospice.

Russ was well known for his love of the outdoors, considering it precious time spent with family and friends hunting and fishing. Along with his family and wife of over 65 years, Russ enjoyed many happy hours in the garden. He served as a conservation warden for the DNR from 1956-1980.

On July 14, 1979, he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. His love of God, Neighbor, and the promise of a restored paradise earth motivated him to share this hope with many in the community.

Russ will be missed by his wife, Arvilla; sons, Howard (Karen) Christensen and Jeff (Nancy) Christensen; daughter, Toni (Kurt) Zastrow; granddaughter, Heidi (Adam) Brickner; grandsons, Mike (Jinhee) Christensen and Jonathan Christensen.

He was preceded in death by his father, William; mother, Clara; brother, Conrad; and sister, Constance.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 506 N. Chestnut Ave., Oconto Falls, from 1 p.m. until the memorial service at 2 p.m. with James P. Wilhmane (Billie) Miller, 90, died on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Autumn Winds of Oakland in Cambridge.

She was born June 20, 1927. She was the daughter of William and Ann Flynn, both deceased.

Preceding her in death were her sons, Leland Michael, Steven James, and Ronald Gene, and her husband, Arthur Miller Sr.

She is survived by children Arthur Louis (Louise) Miller Jr., Marion Lavetta (Harlan) Nielsen, William August (Patricia) Miller, Terrie Lynn (Brian) Knox, and Beth Ann (Richard Nordness) Miller and grandchildren Arthur III, Rene, Bret, Jason, Jarod, Travis, Jessica, Paris, Gillian, Brian, and Zoe, as well as great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 16 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 302 Merchants Ave., Fort Atkinson, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Private burial will be held at a later date in Breed Union Cemetery in Breed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Hubert H. Robenhorst

Hubert Hugo Robenhorst, 88, of Suring, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018, in Green Bay. Hubert was born in Breed on Jan. 6, 1930, the son of the late Robert and Viola (Lemke) Robenhorst. In 1949, Hubert joined the United States Army proudly serving our country for three years during the Korean Conflict. On April 25, 1953, he was united in marriage to Rita Ann O’Neil at St. Peter Catholic Church in Oconto. Hubert loved taking care of his wife until her passing on Jan. 14, 2012. He worked for Super Excavators for 42 years. After his retirement, he and Rita were snowbirds traveling the country until finally settling on the family homestead in Breed. Hubert was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Chapel-Chute Pond Suring where he ushered and served on the grounds committee. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 283 in Suring and a 63-year member of the Operating Engineers Union 139. Hubert loved being outdoors hunting and fishing or tinkering with various projects. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.

Hubert is survived by his six children, Robert (Andrea) Robenhorst, of Horicon, Anita (Darrell) Wagenknecht, of Suring, Annette Robenhorst, of Germantown, Rodney Robenhorst, of Pickeral, Randy (friend Karen Yerges) Robenhorst, of Mayville, and Amy (Tim) Kabachinski, of Grand Chute; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Loretta Shehow and Betty (Jim) Wegner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; his parents; and his siblings, Herbert, Arlene, Roger and three infant siblings.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at St. Michael‘s Chapel-Chute Pond in Suring with Father Rico officiating, assisted by Sister Marla. Inurnment will be in Breed Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Kenneth E. Schneider

Kenneth E. Schneider, 88, of Cecil, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, while surrounded by his family on Thursday afternoon, March 22, 2018, in Green Bay. He was born in the Town of Maple Grove on Oct. 31, 1929, the son of the late Clarence and Margaret (Hansen) Schneider. Kenneth is a 1949 graduate of Bonduel High School. In 1951, Kenneth was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge on Oct. 9, 1953. On Aug. 8, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Arbutus Wegner, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Cecil. For a short time, Kenneth worked at Appleton Coated before the couple began dairy farming, until their retirement. Kenneth still enjoyed helping on the farm, along with tractor rides. Kenneth was extremely proud his military service and was a member of the Bonduel American Legion Post 217. He had a love for old Army Jeeps — so much so, that he drove his own restored jeep in numerous local parades year after year. In past years, he enjoyed snowmobiling, travelling with Arbutus, including trips throughout the states and numerous countries, and four-wheeling. He took great pride in his new Gator, which he purchased this past winter.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Arbutus; his son, Gerald “Jerry” (Alice) Schneider, of Cecil; two daughters, Joyce (Roger) Olson, of Shawano, and JoAnn (Steve Schmidt) Schneider, of Gillett; three grandchildren, Jesse (Tieha Kuczer) Schneider, of Bonduel, Lisa (Matt Dazell) Schmidt, of Merrillville, Indiana, and Nikki Schmidt, of Gillett. He is further survived by his brother, Clarence (Barb) Schneider, of Cecil; a sister-in-law, Shirley Wegner, of Shawano; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Vernon (Bernice) Schneider; brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin Wegner and Marvin and Myrtle Neumann.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2018, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Cecil with the Rev. Moira Finley officiating. Burial was in St. John’s UCC Cemetery in Cecil with military rites conducted by the Bonduel American Legion Post 217. Visitation was held on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at the Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel and again at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

Alton Erickson

Alton “Al” Erickson, 97, of Twin Lakes, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Aurora Memorial Hospital-Burlington.

Born in Oconto Falls on Oct. 20, 1920, he was the son of Gustav and Myrtle (nee Harvey) Erickson. He spent his early years in Oconto Falls where he graduated from Oconto Falls High School. He attended vocational school briefly. He took a bus to the Chicago area where he worked at Exact Machine Works.

On Oct. 23, 1943, in Maywood, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Marge B. Richardson. Following marriage, they made their home in Maywood, where they managed a small grocery store for 22 years. Marge preceded him in death on June 28, 2007, after 64 years of marriage. Al served his country in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, during World War II, on Sea Plane Tender USS Half Moon in the South Pacific. He later worked in Burlington, Kenosha and Fond du Lac for Montgomery Ward before returning to Burlington in 1990. While in Fond du Lac, he was an active member of the Fond du Lac Historical Society. He enjoyed going fishing with Marge, making model steam engines, painting and especially enjoyed doing woodworking projects building PBY Planes. He attended a yearly reunion with his Navy shipmates and was honored to have sponsored one in Milwaukee in 2009.

Al is survived by his children, Nancy (Jerry) Allen of Twin Lakes and Allen (Robbie) Erickson of Stafford, Virginia; grandchildren, David (Shannon) Erickson, Ann Danae Erickson, Julie Erickson, Jason (Shannon) Allen and Brandon (Shona) Allen. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and a brother, Orland Erickson, and sister-in-law, Sheilah Richardson along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Aurora at Home Hospice-Burlington or Burlington Rescue Squad.

The family would like to thank the staff at Oak Park Place, the Burlington Rescue Squad and the nurses and staff at Aurora Memorial Hospital-Burlington for the wonderful care and compassion.

Lois L. Trever

Lois L. Trever, 83, of Mountain, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Lois was born the daughter of John and Iva (Collins) Troutman in the town of Mountain on June 2, 1934. She attended Peshtigo Brook Grade School and Suring High School. Lois married Melvin Trever at Hickory Church of Christ in December 1952. She served the area in many ways including serving on the Mountain Ambulance for 25 years, serving as town clerk for the Town of Armstrong (now Mountain) for 22 years, was on the Oconto County Board of Supervisors for 26 years and was a member of Mountain Church of Christ for many years along with being a Sunday school teacher.

Lois also served as deputy zoning officer, deputy coroner and as a volunteer driver for the Oconto County Commission on Aging, as well as working the Commission on Aging meal site in Lakewood.

Lois is survived by her children, Ardis (Roger) Kuske, Lori (Alton) Braddy, Wanda (Brian) Ploeger, Ellen (Rick) Hunt, and Brad (Shaun) Trever; two sisters, Helen Anderson and Margie McNutt; a brother, Lyle (Nona) Troutman; four sisters-in-law, Arnola Troutman, June (Gerald) Janousky, Lillian Krueger, and Patricia Trever; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Dorothy) Trevor and Joe (Sandy) Trever; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roy Troutman, Harry Troutman and Gary Troutman; a sister Gail Trever; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Thompson; four brothers-in-law, Emerald Anderson, Gilbert Trever, Ray Trever Jr. and Gilbert McNutt.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Hickory Church of Christ from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral service at noon with Pastor Andrew Jantz officiating. Wayne Damp

Wayne Damp, 75, Oconto Falls, died suddenly of natural causes Wednesday morning, April 11, 2018, at the home of his daughter. He was born Jan. 23, 1943, in Oconto Falls to James and Lorraine (Kitzman) Damp Sr. Wayne grew up in Oconto Falls where he attended pubic schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1961. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam and upon his honorable discharge came back to Oconto Falls.

On March 12, 1966, he married Yvonne Heimke in Menominee, Michigan, and the couple lived in Oconto Falls for all of their married lives where they raised two children. Wayne worked for many years at the American Archery Co. in Oconto Falls where he developed fine artistic woodworking skills and began his own woodcarving business, specializing in wildlife and wood-burning. He was a well-known artist who displayed his crafts all over the area and was recognized in Shawano as “Best of Show” six years in a row. Wayne was also employed at the U.S. Postal Service, first as a carrier in Oconto Falls and later as a sorter in Green Bay, for many years until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Wayne will be fondly remembered as a loving and proud husband, father and grandfather who lit up any time his grandchildren were around.

Survivors are his two children, Wendy (special friend, Sean Houska) Damp, Oconto Falls; Scott (Kate) Damp, Green Bay; five grandchildren, Jacob (Angel) Oestreich, Mariah (Jordan) Busch and Jasmine Teller; Scott W. Jr. and Max Damp; great-grandchildren, Trent and Seth Oestreich, Malakai, Wayne and Charlie Busch; one brother, James (Virgie) Damp Jr., Oconto Falls; one sister, Faye (Wade) Tress, Coleman; one sister-in-law, Regina Damp, Oconto Falls; four brothers-in-law, Ron (Mary) Heimke, Abrams; Gary (Glori) Heimke, Todd “Doc” (Sandra) and Roger “Eb” (Terri) Heimke all of Oconto Falls; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Yvonne in 2012, one brother Norman Damp in 2017, and in-laws, Gordon and Marie Heimke.

Benedict V. Banaszynski

Benedict “Jay” Vincent Banaszynski Jr., 60, Phelps, died Saturday morning, April 14, 2018, surrounded by family members and was received into God’s loving arms, at home following a valiant two and a half year fight with cancer. Jay was born Jan. 5, 1958, to Benedict Sr. and Sandra (Krueger) Banaszynski. Jay grew up in the Pulaski area and attended Pulaski public schools, graduating from Pulaski High School with the class of 1976.

On Nov. 11, 1977, Jay married his high school sweetheart Anne (Sinclair) at Pamperin Park in Green Bay. They raised three children (two daughters, one son) and lived in Pulcifer for over 20 years. After their children were grown and starting families of their own, Jay and Anne moved up north to Phelps where the family enjoyed vacationing and camping every year. Jay has lived in Phelps for the past 10 years and has worked for the town of Phelps for six years.

Jay will forever be remembered as an amazing father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend. He lived his life to the fullest and was always keeping himself busy. He loved hunting and fishing along with tending his garden and working in his shop. Almost always you could find Jay with a smile on his face, especially when spending time with his grandchildren and family and friends. Anyone who met him quickly gained an amazing new friend. Jay had a very giving heart and would always help anyone who needed it.

Survivors are his children, son-in-law, Mike Kallies, Elizabeth and Mitchell, Oconto Falls; daughter, Misty (Bradley) Reed, Tesia Banaszynski (Fond du Lac), Jaden, Damien, Jagger, Oconto Falls; son, Kevin (Megan) Banaszynski, Danika, Hatley; his father, Benedict Banaszynski Sr., Shawano; his older sister, Lyn Banaszynski, Bowler; his two younger sisters, Dawn Banaszynski, Shawano; Lauralee Banaszynski, Shawano; other special nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Jay was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Banaszynski; his daughter, Kelly Kallies; and his wife, Anne Banaszynski.

Delores M. Pendl

Dolores M. Pendl, age 94, of Suring, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018. Dolores was born on April 15, 1923, to the late August and Margaret (Collier) Kebschull at home. She attended and graduated from Suring schools. Dolores was employed in Chicago for a number of years where she met and married Charles Pendl in 1944. They moved to Suring in 1947 and had an insurance agency and later Pendl Real Estate Co. until Charles’ death in 1989.

Dolores was a confirmed member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and a member of the Women of the Church. She served on the church finance committee for a few years. Dolores was a charter member of the Suring Lioness Club, which sponsored many local events such as the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt, the bloodmobile and other events where help and money was needed. She was member of the Suring Historical Society and also served on the Suring Election Board for many years. Dolores was a charter member of the Tuesday Morning Ladies Golf League and for many years the Wednesday Mulligan League.

Dolores enjoyed sports of all kinds. The Packers, the Badgers and the Brewers were some of her favorite teams, and she was always interested in Suring sports teams. Her three sons had all been very active in all sports during their school years. Dolores enjoyed going to the fitness classes twice a week, golfing into her 90s, playing cards and having lunch with her friends of many years. She was also an avid reader, always having books by her side.

Most important to Dolores was spending time with her family, especially during holidays and summer time gatherings at the cottage at Kelly Lake where all the family came to be together for no special reason but to be able to spend time together.

Dolores is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard (Jeanne) of Holmen, Gary (Kasey) of Menomonee Falls, and Randy (Kay) of Rost Lake (Coleman); eight grandchildren, Aaron (Andrea) Pendl of Rochester, Minnesota, Andrew (Meghan) Pendl of Denver, Colorado, Brandon (Michele) Pendl of Kelly Lake, Kara Pendl of Austin, Texas, Hannah Pendl of Chicago, Katey (Carlo) Fumei of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Dr. Suzanne Pendl of Los Angeles, and Sarah (Jamie) Petraglia of Scottsdale, Arizona, and the girls’ mother Bonnie Pendl; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, Elle Fumei, Simone Fumei, Charlie Fumei, Paige Pendl, Lillian Pendl, Margaret Pendl and Alice Pendl; niece, Kris (Dr. Eric) LaRue of Winter Haven, Florida. She is further survived by many friends and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles, in 1989; daughter-in-law Alice in 1998; sister-in-law Patricia in 2006; brother, LeRoy in 2014; niece Karole Dickman in 2018.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Paholke officiating. Cynthia L. Seifert, 59, of Mountain, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018, after fighting a good fight with cancer. Cindy was born on Jan. 29, 1959, to Don and Barbara (Pape) Seifert. She married Steven Schelk on Sept. 7, 2013. Cindy enjoyed spending time at home on the back deck, enjoying the outdoors with her dog, gardening, cooking and spending time with her husband, friends and family. She cared greatly for others and wanted to make sure that everyone around her was taken care of.

Cindy is survived by her husband and partner of 17 years, Steven Schelk; parents, Don and Barbara; two siblings, Michael (Tess Davis) Seifert and Debbie (Jim) Denhardt; four nephews. She is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

Martha (Van Ark) Chartier

SAN DIEGO — Martha Chartier passed away in her home surrounded by her family on April 2, 2018, after 102½ years on this earth. She had been lovingly cared for by her family in the last years, especially by her son, Leon, his significant other Sandra, and her daughters, Delores and Carolynn.

Martha was born in Wisconsin in September 1915 and married Russell Chartier in May 1936. They moved to San Diego with their two oldest children in 1942. She raised eight children and three grandchildren. Martha has outlived many of her closest and dearest friends and relatives but never stopped making new ones. Martha lost one son, Robert, in 1979, and her husband of nearly 50 years, Russell, in 1984. Martha was always young at heart; she traveled the world after her husband’s death, visiting Japan, Europe, China, England and Australia. She was a member of many organizations over the years, including the Peninsula Women’s Club, the Thursday Club and the Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by her children Delores Brock, Jim Chartier, Carolynn Gilb, Patricia Halpin, William Chartier, Yvonne Chartier-Farugen and Leon Chartier; their spouses Bob, Marcie, Jerry, Dennis, Bill, Colin and Saundra; as well as 12 grandchildren, one “grand dog,” and 18 great-grandchildren. She will be missed by many whose lives she filled with joy and love. She is now with her husband and son, and the many friends who preceded her.

A memorial Mass, with a reception following, was held April 14 at her longtime church, St. Agnes Church, 1140 Evergreen St., San Diego, CA 92106. Please donate to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.


Erma E. Langhoff

Erma Elsie (Zastrow) Miller - Langhoff, Gillett, age 99, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Atrium Post-Acute Care of Oconto Falls.

Erma was born in the town of Gillett on Feb. 12, 1919, a daughter of the late Bernard and Hulda (Zielke) Zastrow. In 1936, Erma was married to Ferdinand “Fritz” Miller, and together they farmed and raised four children. Erma loved gardening at the family farm and raising violets all year ‘round, particularly in winter. Fritz preceded Erma in death in 1984, and she later remarried to Elmer Langhoff. Elmer preceded Erma in death in 2003.

Erma was an active member of Gillett Baptist Church and held various positions within the church in earlier years. She was a past church clerk and Sunday school teacher and also hosted many visiting clergy and guests of the church over the years. Erma loved fishing, especially along the banks of the Oconto River that ran through her property, as well as canning vegetables that she grew each year. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and will be sadly missed.

Erma leaves her children: Roger (the late Esther) Miller, Elaine (Ron) Hoffman and Carl (Ann) Miller, all of Gillett, and Mavis Chlopek of Sheboygan; her step-children: Art (Karen) Langhoff of Marion and Ken (Mary) Langhoff of Gillett. She also leaves 17 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Erma is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Fritz and Elmer; and her siblings, Walter (Viola) Zastrow, Sadie (Walter) Lochel and Edith (Marshall) Horsens.

Friends and relatives may call on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from noon to 1:45 p.m. at Gillett Baptist Church, 10780 Town Hall Road, Gillett, WI 54124. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Reggie Reinhold officiating. Interment will follow in Wanderers Rest Cemetery.

Gloria Cottrell

Gloria Cottrell, 84, of Oconto Falls, died April 22, 2018, after a long illness. She was born in Taylor County to Charles and Clara (Pinkert) Schwark.

She graduated from Medford High School and St. Joseph School of Nursing in Marshfield. During her rotation at Winnebago State Hospital in Oshkosh, she met her future husband, Gerald, and they married in 1955 in Medford.

While in school, she was recruited by Dr. Clyde Siefert, who was completing his internship at Marshfield, to work at Community Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls, where she worked from September 1954 until her marriage to Gerald.

The couple moved to Madison, where Gerald attended the University of Wisconsin and Gloria worked as an industrial nurse for Oscar Meyer and also a private duty nurse. They studied the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses while living there.

After Gerald’s graduation, they moved to Missouri, where she worked in Kansas City at Baptist Memorial Hospital in labor and delivery and Research Hospital in orthopedics. They were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses during this time. After moving back to Wisconsin, Gloria worked at Brown County Mental Health Center in Green Bay as director of nursing from 1969-1973. They lived in Chippewa Falls and Osseo for a number of years. She finished her nursing career as director of nursing at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Wisconsin Rapids, where Jerry was teaching at Mid-State Technical College.

Gloria and Gerald had many friends. Their hobbies included camping, boating, fishing, and traveling, and watching the Packers. One of Gloria’s favorite memories was sitting around the campfire, talking and singing with friends. They especially enjoyed a cruise to Alaska in their retirement years, again with friends.

Surviving are her children, Nancy (Jeff) Christensen and Julie Covi; her grandchildren, Heidi (Adam) Brickner, Michael (Jinhee) Christensen, Jonathan Christensen, Cade Covi, Kitt Covi; and one great-grandchild, Charlie. Also surviving are many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins; and one aunt, Irene.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gerald; son Michael; brothers George, Kenneth and Alan; sisters Hetty and Elaine; niece Laurie; and beloved aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 5, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 506 N. Chestnut Ave., Oconto Falls, with visitation at 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. with her grandson, Michael Christensen, officiating. Gloria will be interred in Evergreen Cemetery in Algoma. Ralph “Jack” VandenBush, 90, Oconto Falls, died early Thursday morning, April 26, 2018, at Atrium Post Acute Care. He was born Dec. 17, 1927, in the Town of Morgan to William and Rose (Wood) VandenBush. Jack grew up in the Oconto Falls area, where he graduated high school with the class of 1946. As a young man, he entered the U.S. Navy and was a member of Admiral Byrd’s expedition to the Antarctic Circle in 1947. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he returned home to Oconto Falls.

On June 26, 1954, he married Margaret LeComte and the couple had six children together. Jack was employed by the Scott Paper Co. in Oconto Falls for almost 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was a longtime and active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls, where he served as trustee and usher, sang in the folk choir and volunteered his time and talents in numerous parish activities including president of the Holy Name Society. As a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, Jack was elected and served as a lector and was active with fundraisers. His hobbies included woodworking, golf, gardening, fishing and, in his younger years, softball and bowling.

Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Margaret VandenBush, Oconto Falls; their six children, Cindy (Lincoln) Petersen, Tampa, Fla., Rick (Patty) VandenBush, Oconto Falls, Dan (Karen) VandenBush, Luxemburg, Lisa (Ed) Christensen, Oconto Falls, Paula (Gary) Hansen, Green Bay, and Diane (Don) Schmidt, Coleman; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Viola “Ollie” (Arnie) Anderson, Oconto Falls; one sister-in-law, Sally VandenBush, St. Germaine; one brother-in-law, Dr. Dean Magnin, Marinette; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Milton, Eben, Lloyd, Cletus “Pete,” Gordon “John,” Reuben, Bill and Joe VandenBush; four sisters, Edna Krueger, Gladys “Tiny” VanHaren, Doris Depner and Genevieve Burk; and one grandson, Brett VandenBush.

Visitation was held 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls, 7 p.m. KC prayer service. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic School Foundation.

Wilhmane (Billie) Miller, 90, died on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Autumn Winds of Oakland in Cambridge.

She was born on June 20, 1927, to the late William and Ann Flynn.

Preceding her in death were her sons, Leland Michael, Steven James, Ronald Gene and her husband, Arthur Miller Sr.

She is survived by children, Arthur Louis (Louise) Miller Jr., Marion Lavetta (Harlan) Nielsen, William August (Patricia) Miller, Terrie Lynn (Brian) Knox, Beth Ann (Richard Nordness) Miller, and grandchildren Arthur III, Rene, Bret, Jason, Jarod, Travis, Jessica, Paris, Gillian, Brian, and Zoe, as well as great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Breed Union Cemetery at 10 a.m. with Pastor Bill Krauss officiating. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements.

Patricia “Pat” Alice Kmecheck, Gillett, 72, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls.

She was born in New London on June 28, 1945, a daughter of the late Lester D. Prahl and Margaret (Gough). Pat was married to John D. Kmecheck on Nov. 16, 1968, and together they raised four children. Pat was “mom” to many of her children’s friends over the years and had also worked as a beautician and later as a manager of several gas stations in the Sheboygan Falls area.

Pat loved nature and watching wildlife out her window, she was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, and also enjoyed sewing, canning and rummage sales. She will be sadly missed.

Pat is survived by her loving husband of over 49 years, John; her children, Katherine Randall, of De Pere, Kimberly (Jeff) Hanke, of Plymouth, John P. Kmecheck, of Sheboygan, and Kandi (Keith) Bagley, of Waldo. She also leaves her siblings John Prahl, Leonard “Butch” Blank, Milton “Mike” (Barb) Blank, Art (Debbie) Blank, Tommy Blank, Irene (the late Dwayne) Pingel, Helen (Robert) Dessort and Susie (Rick) Babcock. Pat is further survived by her grandchildren, Keith “KC,” Tyler, Wyatt, Anabelle and Hayden; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many, many friends.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donald Blank.

Friends and relatives may call on the family on Thursday, May 3, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. at Legacy Funeral Chapels, 108 E. Main St., Gillett. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m.
