
Emil “Butch” Mittag, 91, Oconto Falls, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at The Cottages at The Meadowlands. He was born on Sept. 23, 1926, in Marinette to Emil and Ida (Behnke) Mittag. Butch grew up in Marinette and graduated from Marinette High School with the class of 1945.
On April 10, 1948, he married Inez P. Caylor at St. James Lutheran Church in Marinette. The couple lived most of their married lives in Marinette where Butch worked as a papermaker at Scott Paper Co. in Marinette for 43 years. Butch and Inez moved to Oconto Falls in 1986 where he worked part time for his daughter and son-in-law at Sharpe Care Nursing & Rehab until 2001. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls.
Survivors are his two daughters, Debbie (Jim) Sharpe, Oconto Falls; Sandie Fazer, Muskegon, Michigan; four grandchildren, Erica (Jim) Lynch and Jessica (Jeff) Jahnke, Matthew (Jen) Schroeder and Mandy (Larry) Wheeler; nine grandchildren, Parker Rauch, Norah, Anna and Grant Jahnke, Madeline and Oscar Schroeder, Dawson, Brady and MacKenzie Wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Inez, on Sept. 18, 1996; two sisters, Lucille Tebo and Ruth Cahill; and three brothers, Robert, Harold and Carl Mittag.
Visitation will be held after 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor Gary R. Olson officiating. Entombment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Marinette. Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls is serving the Mittag family.
